Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and I wanted to share my experiences and some questions I have regarding integrating Hyperion with Hubitat. This journey has been both exciting and a bit challenging, so I thought I’d document it here for anyone else who might be going through the same thing or has some insights to share.First off, I’ve been using Govee reactive TV lights for a while now, controlled via a Lutron Pico switch and the Govee API. While the setup worked, I always felt like there was room for improvement in terms of the lighting effects. Then, I came across Hyperion, which uses a TV capture card to mirror the TV’s display and project the colors onto my lights. The difference has been night and day compared to the Govee setup—it’s much more dynamic and immersive. Now, the challenge I’m facing is how to integrate Hyperion with my Hubitat ecosystem. I’ve got a Home Assistant instance running on a separate Raspberry Pi, and I know there’s a way to connect HA to Hubitat, but I’m not entirely sure how to make that work seamlessly. My main goals are to be able to turn Hyperion on and off and change modes directly from Hubitat. I’ve heard that Home Assistant can control Hyperion, so maybe there’s a way to bridge that functionality into Hubitat. If not, I’d love to hear suggestions on how to set up a system where Hubitat can control something that Home Assistant sees.I’ve also been experimenting with automations and scene settings, trying to create a cohesive experience where my lights adapt to what’s happening on my TV. It’s been a learning process, but seeing the lights react in real-time to the TV’s content is incredibly satisfying. I’m curious if others have managed to achieve similar setups and what tools or scripts they’ve used.Another aspect I’ve been thinking about is the potential for creating custom modes or presets within Hyperion that can be triggered by specific events or actions in Hubitat. For example, having the lights switch to a more subdued mode during late-night viewing or a vibrant mode during movie nights. This level of customization would really take my setup to the next level. If anyone out there has successfully integrated Hyperion with Hubitat or has advice on the best approach to achieve this integration, I’d be thrilled to hear from you. Whether it’s through direct control, scripting, or leveraging other platforms like Home Assistant, I’m all ears. Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other elevate our smart home experiences!
