Integrating KNX Switches with Hue Lights: A Smooth Automation Journey

Hey everyone, I’m diving into the world of home automation after switching from OpenHAB to Home Assistant, and it’s been quite the learning curve! One of my main goals is to seamlessly integrate my KNX switches with my Hue lights. While I’ve managed to get things working with some basic automations, I’m curious if there’s a more elegant or efficient way to handle this setup.

Currently, I’ve set up two separate automations—one for turning the lights on when the KNX switch is activated and another for turning them off. While this works, it feels a bit clunky, especially when I want the Hue app to reflect the state of the KNX switch and vice versa. I’m worried about potential race conditions or unexpected behaviors if the two systems start triggering each other unintentionally.

I’ve also explored the idea of using a template switch to keep both the KNX switch and the Hue light in sync. The logic seems sound on paper, but in practice, it doesn’t quite behave as expected. Turning on the KNX switch doesn’t update the Hue app, and controlling the Hue light doesn’t affect the KNX switch. It’s like they’re speaking different languages, and I’m trying to be the translator!

I’m wondering if there’s a simpler way to achieve this bidirectional control without writing a ton of custom rules. Maybe there’s a built-in feature or a clever workaround that I’m missing. I’d love to hear from anyone who’s tackled a similar integration or has tips for making this setup more robust and user-friendly. Let’s keep the conversation flowing and help each other navigate this exciting but sometimes tricky world of smart home integration!
