Integrating Landscape Lighting with OpenHAB2

I recently stumbled upon an interesting challenge while trying to integrate my existing landscape lighting system with OpenHAB2. Our house has a pre-installed landscape lighting setup that relies on a 2-wire photo sensor to activate at dusk. My goal is to bring this system into the smart home ecosystem I’ve been building, primarily using Z-Wave devices.

The main question I have is: Can I replace the existing light sensor with something that can send a ‘darkness’ signal to OpenHAB2? I’ve heard about various sensors and modules that could potentially do this, but I’m not entirely sure which one would be the best fit.

I’ve been reading up on Z-Wave sensors and maybe even looking into some custom solutions, but I’m still a bit overwhelmed. If anyone has experience with similar setups or knows of a reliable sensor that can mimic the functionality of the original photo sensor, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

On a related note, I’ve also been exploring the Paper UI in OpenHAB2 and have managed to set up most of my Z-Wave devices. However, I’m struggling to see the group tabs when I go into the Paper UI. I’ve added items, but controlling them from the Paper UI doesn’t seem to work as expected. Any tips on how to properly configure this would be greatly appreciated.

Lastly, I’ve come across some discussions about the Govee Life product, but I’m not entirely sure if it’s a legitimate product or just a marketing ploy. If anyone has firsthand experience with Govee products, especially in the context of smart home integration, I’d love to hear about your experiences.

Overall, I’m excited about the possibilities that integrating these systems brings, but I could definitely use some guidance to overcome these hurdles. Let’s keep the conversation going and share our tips and tricks for smart home integration!
