Hey everyone! I wanted to share my recent experience integrating Motes with SmartThings. It’s been a fantastic journey, and I’m excited to walk you through it. ![]()
I recently came across Motes, these tiny wireless sensors that measure everything from temperature and humidity to light and soil moisture. They’re powered by a single battery and don’t require an internet connection, which is a huge plus for me. I decided to give them a try, and I must say, I’m thoroughly impressed! ![]()
My Setup
I’ve started by integrating a few Motes into my SmartThings ecosystem. Here’s what I’ve done so far:
- Climote: I’ve placed one in my attic to monitor temperature and humidity, and another in my wine room to keep an eye on the conditions. It’s been incredibly helpful in maintaining the perfect environment for my wine collection.

- Growmote: This one is perfect for my garden. I’ve set it up to monitor soil moisture and temperature, which helps me ensure my plants are getting just the right care.

- Watermote: I’ve installed these under every sink and toilet to detect leaks before they cause any damage. It’s a peace of mind thing, and I couldn’t be happier with how it’s working out.

- Securimote: I’ve set this up for occupancy detection. It’s been a great addition to my security setup, and I love how it integrates seamlessly with my existing system.

The Integration Process
The integration process with SmartThings was surprisingly smooth. I used the Mote.Cloud bridge, which allows all the low-power Bluetooth devices to communicate with the internet and, in turn, with SmartThings. It was a breeze to set up, and I had everything running in no time. ![]()
Why I Love Motes
What really sold me on Motes is their versatility and ease of use. They’re small enough to place anywhere without being intrusive, and the fact that they last for about a year on a single battery is a huge plus. Plus, the Wife Acceptance Factor (WAF) is through the roof! My wife loves how discreet they are and how they’ve added an extra layer of security and convenience to our home. ![]()
Looking Forward
I’m already planning my next projects with Motes. I’m thinking of adding more sensors to monitor different areas of my home and maybe even integrating them with my smart lighting system. The possibilities are endless, and I can’t wait to see how else I can enhance my SmartThings setup with these amazing devices. ![]()
If anyone has any tips or suggestions for further integration or has tried something similar, I’d love to hear about it! Let’s keep the conversation going and share our experiences with Motes and SmartThings. ![]()
