Hi everyone! I’ve been on a journey to integrate various smart devices into my home ecosystem, and I’d love to share my experiences and seek some advice.
Starting with the Aeotec energy meter, I’ve been impressed by its ability to track energy usage across multiple phases. However, I’ve noticed that the default channel names like ‘clamp-1’ and ‘clamp-2’ aren’t very descriptive. I’d love to rename these channels for clarity, but I’m not sure how to do that. Does anyone know if this is possible or if there’s a workaround?
On the camera front, I’ve set up a couple of Blink cameras for wildlife monitoring. They’ve been great, but I’ve noticed that Blink adds branding to the video clips. I’d prefer to remove this branding before sharing the clips online. Has anyone found a solution for this?
Another area I’m exploring is automation with Homey. I’ve managed to create some basic rules, but I’m hitting a wall with more complex scenarios. For instance, I’d like to automate the process of setting my Chromecast screen to idle mode without waiting for the timeout. I’ve tried using the physical remote, but it’d be fantastic to integrate this into my existing automation setup. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Lastly, I’ve been experimenting with MQTT and WebSockets for more advanced integrations. I’ve come across some issues with the embedded MQTT broker not supporting WebSocket connections, which is a bit frustrating. I’d love to hear if others have successfully implemented WebSocket-based MQTT clients or if there are alternative approaches they’d recommend.
Overall, I’m really enjoying the process of building a smarter home, but there are definitely some hurdles to overcome. I’d be grateful for any tips, tricks, or insights you can share!
