Integrating Old CCTV Systems with New Smart Cameras: A Success Story

Hey everyone! I’ve been on a bit of a smart home journey lately, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and tips in case they can help others. Let me start by saying how impressed I am with the Wyze cameras. The image quality is amazing, and the features are just fantastic. I’ve been using them for a while now, and they’ve really added a great layer of security to my home.

One thing I’ve been experimenting with is repurposing my old CCTV systems to power these new Wyze V2 cameras. I have a legacy system with 14 cameras, and it’s been a bit of a challenge to integrate the new tech without completely overhauling everything. But I’ve managed to do it! Here’s how I did it:

I tapped into the existing 12V power lines from the old cameras. I used a power splitter to connect the Wyze camera and the old camera. Then, I added a 12V to 5V step-down transformer to power the Wyze camera. It’s a bit of a workaround, but it’s worked perfectly so far. The best part is that I can power cycle the Wyze camera just by turning off and on the old camera’s power source. It’s been a great way to reuse the old infrastructure without having to run new wires everywhere.

I also wanted to mention the Echo Dot issue I’ve been having. It keeps waking me up in the morning with music, which is super frustrating. I don’t have any alarms set, so I’m not sure what’s triggering it. I’ve tried resetting it and checking the settings, but nothing seems to work. If anyone has any tips on how to stop this, I’d really appreciate it!

Lastly, I wanted to talk about the Matter devices. I’ve been trying to pair some Leviton switches, and it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster. I’ve managed to get most of them connected, but two of them just won’t pair. They’re in the same setup as the others, so I’m not sure what’s going on. I’ve tried resetting them, checking the firmware, everything. It’s been a bit of a pain, but I’m hopeful I can figure it out soon.

Overall, I’ve really enjoyed the process of integrating these new devices into my home. It’s been a mix of triumphs and challenges, but I’m learning so much along the way. If anyone has any tips or experiences to share, I’d love to hear them!

Cheers, [Your Name]
