So, my goal was to create a seamless experience where I could turn on my PS4, TV, soundbar, and even my Hue lights with just a single button press on my phone. After some research, I decided to use the SmartThings hub along with IFTTT and Tasker to make this happen. Let me walk you through how I did it!
Step 1: Setting Up the SmartThings Hub
First, I connected my PS4 to the SmartThings hub. This allowed me to control the PS4’s power through the hub. I used a smart plug for this, which made the process straightforward. If you haven’t tried using a smart plug for gaming consoles, I highly recommend it—it adds a whole new layer of convenience!
Step 2: Automating the TV and Soundbar
Next, I wanted to ensure that my TV and soundbar would turn on automatically when I started my gaming session. I used IFTTT to create a trigger that detects when the PS4 is powered on and then sends a command to turn on the TV and soundbar. It took a bit of tweaking, but once it was set up, it worked like magic!
Step 3: Adding Hue Lighting Automation
For the final touch, I wanted my Hue lights to change color when I started playing. I set up another IFTTT recipe that changes the Hue bulbs to a specific color when the PS4 is turned on. Now, every time I start a game, my room lights up in my favorite gaming color scheme—total immersion!
