I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting lately, and I must say, it’s been a fascinating journey! One of the projects I’ve been working on involves integrating RGB controllers for a more customized lighting experience. I came across a few interesting solutions that I’d like to share and discuss with the community.
Earlier this week, I stumbled upon a post about creating a custom DTH (Device Type Handler) for an RGBGenie RGBW Z-Wave controller. The user mentioned how they removed the color temperature capability and replaced it with a white channel slider. This immediately caught my attention because I’ve been looking for ways to simplify the control of white LED strips in my kitchen. The idea of having four separate channels for different lighting zones sounds perfect for my setup!
I decided to give it a try. After modifying the DTH to include a master on/off switch and four individual sliders, I was excited to see it work seamlessly. However, there’s one hiccup—I can’t seem to get Alexa to recognize each channel independently. Is there a way to configure this so that each channel appears as a separate device in the Alexa app? I’d love to be able to say, ‘Alexa, turn on the under-cabinet lights,’ without having to go through the app manually.
Another interesting project I’ve been exploring is the use of Zigbee2MQTT with multiple controllers. I’ve heard great things about this integration, especially when it comes to handling multiple Zigbee devices across different networks. My current setup uses a Sonoff Zigbee Stick, and I’m considering adding another one for a friend’s home. The idea of having a unified system that can manage devices across different IP ranges is incredibly appealing. Does anyone have experience setting this up? Any tips or potential pitfalls I should be aware of?
On a lighter note, I’ve also been experimenting with different lighting scenarios using Lutron Caseta switches. The ability to control fan speeds and dim lights from a single gang box is a game-changer for me. While I prefer not to use smart bulbs, the integration with z-wave devices has been smooth. I’m curious if others have found success with similar setups or if they’ve encountered any challenges.
I’d love to hear from anyone who’s tackled similar projects or has advice on optimizing these integrations. Whether it’s about simplifying voice controls, managing multiple controllers, or enhancing lighting scenarios, your insights would be invaluable!
