Integrating Shelly Devices for Garage Door Monitoring

I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and I must say, it’s been an exciting journey! One of my recent projects involved setting up a Shelly 1 V3 addon to monitor my garage door. It all started when I wanted a more seamless way to track the status of my garage door without having to physically check it every time.

I decided to use a magnet contact sensor connected to the Shelly addon. The setup was pretty straightforward—just a matter of attaching the magnet to the garage door and the contact sensor to the door frame. Once everything was in place, the Shelly addon detected the status changes perfectly. It was amazing to see the garage door status update in real-time on my smartphone.

However, I soon realized that I wanted to take it a step further. I had another magnet contact sensor lying around, and I wondered if I could use it to monitor the door inside my garage as well. The idea was to have both the garage door and the internal door status visible in my home automation system. But here’s where I hit a snag—I wasn’t sure if the Shelly addon could handle multiple magnet contacts simultaneously.

After some research and experimentation, I discovered that it’s indeed possible to connect multiple sensors to a single Shelly device. The key was understanding how to configure the addon to recognize each sensor individually. I had to dig into the Shelly app and tweak some settings to ensure both sensors were detected and reported accurately. It took a bit of trial and error, but eventually, I got it working!

Now, I have a comprehensive system where both the garage door and the internal door status are monitored and displayed in my home automation setup. It’s incredibly satisfying to see everything working together seamlessly. This experience has not only enhanced my garage security but also deepened my understanding of how these devices can be integrated to create a smarter home environment.

If anyone has tips or tricks for optimizing Shelly devices or integrating multiple sensors, I’d love to hear about them! Let’s keep the smart home journey going!
