Hello everyone, I’m really excited to share my recent experience with integrating Shelly devices into my smart home setup. As someone who’s been experimenting with home automation for a while, I’ve always been curious about how to make my home more efficient and convenient. Recently, I decided to take the plunge and set up some Shelly devices, and I must say, the results have been fantastic!
I started with the Shelly Wave Shutter Pro, which I’ve been using to control my window blinds. The idea was to automate the blinds based on sunlight, so they close when the sun is too bright and open when it’s not. I set up a simple automation using my smart home platform, and it worked like a charm. However, I ran into an interesting challenge when I wanted to pause the automation if I manually adjusted the blinds. After some research and experimentation, I discovered that using a Boolean variable to track manual vs. automatic control was the solution. It was a bit tricky at first, but once I got it working, it made the system much more user-friendly.
Another project I’ve been working on is integrating my outdoor motion sensors with my lighting system. I have a couple of Foscam FW8918 cameras that detect motion, and I wanted to use that data to automatically turn on some lights. With the help of my Vera2 gateway, I was able to set up a simple rule: when motion is detected, the lights come on and stay on until I manually turn them off. It’s been a great way to enhance security around my property without needing to constantly monitor everything myself.
One thing I’ve learned through all this is the importance of starting small and gradually building up your smart home setup. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with all the possibilities, but taking it one step at a time makes the process much more manageable. I’ve also found that the community here is incredibly helpful, and I’m grateful for all the tips and advice I’ve received along the way.
If anyone has questions about integrating Shelly devices or setting up motion-based automation, feel free to reach out! I’d be happy to share more details or help troubleshoot any issues. Happy automating everyone! ![]()
