Integrating Shelly Devices for Smart Blinds: A Journey of Exploration

As I dive into the world of smart home automation, I’m currently working on a project to integrate Shelly devices into my existing blind control system. The goal is to enhance functionality and streamline control, and it’s been quite the learning experience!

My Vision:

  • Astro Functionality: I want to move beyond manual adjustments and have my blinds automatically adjust based on sunrise and sunset times. This would eliminate the need for constant manual updates.
  • Automation for Manual Controls: Some of my blinds are currently manual, and I’d love to automate them for convenience.
  • Smart Control Anytime, Anywhere: Being able to monitor and control all my blinds remotely, whether I’m at home or away, is a top priority.
  • HomeKit Integration: Seamless integration with Apple’s ecosystem is a must for me.
  • Preserve Manual Control: While I love the idea of automation, I still want the option to manually operate my blinds if needed.

Current Setup:
I have nine blinds in total. Six are controlled by Gira toggle switches, and three use Jarolift timers. The challenge is to find a solution that works seamlessly with both setups without compromising on functionality.

The Quest for the Right Shelly Device:
I’ve been researching the best Shelly model for my needs. The Shelly 2.5 and Shelly Plus 2 PM both seem like strong candidates. The 2.5 was initially recommended for its affordability, but availability issues have made me lean toward the Plus 2 PM. However, I’m still a bit unclear on the HomeKit integration specifics for the Plus model.

Gira Switch Compatibility:
The Gira switches are a bit of a puzzle. I’ve read that a side terminal connection might be necessary, but I’m not entirely sure. Does anyone have firsthand experience with Gira switches and Shelly devices that they could share?

Switch Selection:
I’ve also been considering whether to stick with toggle switches or switch to push-button controls for better reliability. The Gira 03.536103 push-button switch seems like a good option, but I’d love to hear if others have had success with similar setups.

This project has been a great way to learn more about smart home automation, and I’m excited to see it come together. If anyone has tips or recommendations, I’d be grateful to hear them! Let’s make my home smarter together! :rocket:
