Integrating Shelly Devices for Smart Blinds and Garage Automation

I’ve been really impressed with Shelly devices lately, especially after installing a Shelly 4PM Pro a month ago. It’s been a game-changer for controlling my window blinds and even my garage door. Let me share my experience and some tips that might help others looking to automate their homes.

First, my setup: I have four windows with RadeMacher Rollotron 9200 controllers. These are great for manual operation but a bit tedious to program for seasonal changes. I wanted to integrate Shelly’s sunset features without losing the ability to use the existing up and down buttons. After some research, I found that pairing Shelly’s automation with the existing hardware works perfectly. Now, my blinds adjust automatically based on sunset times, which is a huge convenience!

For the garage door, I wanted a simple automation to close it automatically at 8 PM if it’s left open. I set this up using a smart plug with a timer function. It’s a small feature, but it gives me peace of mind, especially during the colder months.

One thing I’ve learned is the importance of checking firmware updates regularly. A few weeks ago, one of my hubs seemed bricked after a power outage. It wouldn’t connect, and the lights were stuck on solid yellow. After a factory reset and updating the firmware, it worked like new. It’s a good reminder to always ensure your devices are up to date.

If anyone is looking to integrate Shelly devices or similar automation, I’d recommend starting small and gradually expanding. It’s also been helpful to join forums and communities where people share their setups and troubleshoot together. The support from the community has been invaluable.

I’d love to hear how others are using Shelly or other devices to automate their homes. Feel free to share your setups or ask questions—I’m happy to help!
