Hey everyone, I just wanted to share my recent experience integrating my Shelly RGB2 light strip into my OpenHAB setup. It’s been a bit of a learning curve, but I’m thrilled with the results!
I’ve always loved the flexibility of RGB lighting, but getting it to work seamlessly with my existing setup was a challenge. After some research, I stumbled upon the color mode configuration for the Shelly RGB2, which seemed perfect for my needs. I had to dig through the documentation a bit, as it wasn’t immediately obvious, but the effort was totally worth it.
Here’s a quick rundown of what I did:
- Configured the Shelly RGB2 in color mode using the
shellyrgbw2-colorbinding. - Set up a group to control the light strip, including color, brightness, and a toggle switch.
- Customized the UI to match my preferences, using sliders and a color picker for intuitive control.
One thing that tripped me up initially was the extra toggle switch that came with the color item. It didn’t react to the physical button on the Shelly, and it was messing with my semantic model’s light count. After some digging and a bit of trial and error, I found a workaround by adding a separate switch item tied to the power channel. Problem solved!
Now, I can control the light strip through my phone, voice commands, or even my physical switch. It’s so satisfying to see everything work together smoothly. Plus, the color transitions are super smooth, and the brightness controls are spot on.
If anyone else is looking to integrate their Shelly RGB2, I’d highly recommend exploring the color mode option. It’s a bit more involved than the standard setup, but the payoff is incredible. And if you run into any issues, don’t hesitate to reach out—I’d be happy to help!
Happy automating everyone! ![]()
