I’m trying to integrate my Shelly RGBW2 with an existing dimmer setup, but I’m running into a bit of a snag. Let me share my setup and what I’ve tried so far in case someone has a workaround or solution!
Setup:
I have several white LED strips controlled by a 24V dimmer. The dimmer allows me to adjust the brightness, which works perfectly with the existing setup. My goal is to add Alexa voice control using the Shelly RGBW2 while keeping the physical dimmer as a backup. Sounds simple enough, right?
The Issue:
After connecting the Shelly, I noticed that it doesn’t recognize the dimmed signals from the existing dimmer. It seems like the Shelly only responds to full on/off commands and doesn’t interpret the dimmed levels. This is a bit frustrating because I was hoping to maintain the smooth dimming experience I already have.
What I’ve Tried:
- Reconfiguring the Dimmer: I adjusted the dimmer settings to see if there’s a range where the Shelly can pick up the signals, but no luck so far.
- Testing with Different Settings: I’ve experimented with different profiles and settings on the Shelly app, but nothing seems to resolve the dimming issue.
- Consulting the Manual: I reviewed the Shelly RGBW2 manual and online forums, but most solutions seem to focus on standalone setups rather than integrating with existing dimmers.
Possible Solutions:
- Using a Relay: Maybe adding a relay to handle the dimming signal separately could work, but I’m not entirely sure how to implement this.
- Adjusting the Shelly Firmware: I heard that firmware updates can sometimes resolve compatibility issues. I’ll check if there’s an update available for my Shelly.
- Community Input: I’m hoping someone in the community has tackled a similar integration and can share their approach or modifications.
Why This Matters to Me:
Maintaining the dimming functionality is crucial for my setup. It’s not just about convenience—it’s about preserving the ambiance and energy efficiency I’ve come to rely on. I’d hate to lose that just to add voice control.
