After experimenting with various setups, I found a solution that works beautifully for me and my family. Here’s how I did it!First, I wanted to ensure reliable presence detection. I’ve heard about issues with SmartThings’ built-in presence feature and even tried Life360, but it wasn’t as reliable as I hoped. Then, I stumbled upon a fantastic workaround using HomeKit’s “When Anyone Arrives Home” and “When The Last Person Leaves” options. By integrating these with SmartThings routines through a combination of Momentary Tile Buttons and the JSON Complete API SmartApp, I’ve achieved a much more dependable system. It’s been a game-changer for automating lights, thermostats, and security systems based on our comings and goings.Another challenge was integrating Zigbee devices, especially IKEA Tradfri lights. Initially, I faced a lot of instability—timeouts, devices dropping off the network, and inconsistent grouping. After some research and experimentation, I found that connecting them through a Hue bridge and then adding them to my Homey setup made a significant difference. While there are still occasional hiccups, the overall stability has improved dramatically.
