Hi everyone, I’m really enjoying diving into the world of smart home technology. One challenge I’ve encountered is ensuring that my Amazon Echo works seamlessly across different rooms, especially my balcony during the summer months. The issue arises when the balcony door is closed, and Alexa can’t hear me.
I considered purchasing additional Echo devices, but they can be quite expensive. So, I started brainstorming alternative solutions. My idea involves using a tablet with Hass.io installed, which would allow me to control my OpenHAB setup. Additionally, I thought about integrating a microphone-to-PC software on the tablet, forwarding the audio to a small Raspberry Pi with a mini speaker mounted near the existing Alexa device.
This setup would theoretically allow me to use voice commands even when the door is closed. I’m curious if others have implemented similar solutions or if there are more efficient methods to achieve this. It would be fantastic to extend this approach to other areas of my home, like the bedrooms and basement, without investing in multiple Echos.
I’m also exploring the possibility of using a Raspberry Pi to handle the audio forwarding, which could potentially reduce costs and simplify the setup. Any insights or experiences you’ve had with such configurations would be invaluable! Let’s keep the conversation going and share our creative solutions. ![]()
