Integrating Smart Devices in My Home: A Journey of Discovery

I’ve been on an exciting journey integrating various smart devices into my home, and I’d love to share some of my experiences and tips with the community.

One of the most rewarding projects has been setting up my Somfy Sonnesse Ultra 30 Zigbee shades. I managed to pair them with my C8-Pro hub using a workaround I found online, which involved forcing the shades into pairing mode with a phone and a scanner app. It was a bit of a hack, but it worked perfectly! Once paired, they’ve been operating reliably using the generic Zigbee Shade driver. I’d love to see battery level monitoring added to this driver in the future, though—I’d definitely find that useful.

Another challenge I faced was getting my Shelly TRV thermostats to communicate with my H&T sensors. I wanted the TRV to receive a signal from the H&T when the temperature reached a certain threshold. Unfortunately, I couldn’t select the TRV as an action in the H&T settings, and the TRV wasn’t pulling any actions either. I’m still hoping someone in the community might have a tip or workaround for this.

On a lighter note, I’ve also been experimenting with motion sensors and wall switches. My family occasionally forgets about the motion sensors and uses the paddle switches to control the lights directly. It’s a common issue, but I’ve found that setting up rules in the system helps maintain consistency. For instance, if someone manually turns off a light, the system now automatically adjusts other connected devices to match the new state.

Lastly, I wanted to share a tip for anyone dealing with silent notifications from their Blink cameras. I discovered that enabling specific settings in the app ensures notifications are audible, which is a huge help for catching motion events without constantly checking my phone.

This journey has been filled with both triumphs and puzzles, but every challenge brings new insights and opportunities to learn. I’m excited to continue exploring and improving my smart home setup, and I’d love to hear about your experiences and tips as well!
