Integrating Smart Devices: My Journey with Google Home and Hubitat

Hey everyone,

I recently received a Google Home as a gift and decided to give it a try for controlling my Hue light kit and Harmony Hub. At first, it was a breeze—everything worked seamlessly. But as I started experimenting more, I ran into some unexpected issues. For instance, when I told Google to turn off my TV, it ended up turning on my projector instead! It was both frustrating and amusing at the same time.

After some research, I stumbled upon the idea of adding a Hubitat hub to the mix. The thought of linking everything through Hubitat instead of Google Home intrigued me. Would it allow me to maintain control via Google Home while ensuring smoother operations? I decided to give it a shot.

The setup process wasn’t without its challenges, but the results were worth it. By integrating Hubitat, I was able to create a more streamlined system. I could now control my Hue lights, Harmony Hub, and even my projector without any unintended consequences. It was like having a unified command center for all my smart devices!

One feature I particularly enjoyed was the ability to create custom scenes and automations directly through Hubitat. For example, I set up a scene where turning off the lights in the living room automatically dims the projector. It added a whole new layer of convenience to my setup.

I’d love to hear from others who’ve gone through a similar integration process. What were your experiences like? Did you encounter any bumps along the way, and how did you overcome them? I’m especially curious to know if there are any tips or tricks for optimizing a multi-hub system like mine.

Cheers,
