Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience integrating some smart devices into my home setup. It’s been quite a journey, and I’ve learned a few things along the way that I thought might be helpful to others.
First, I recently got a Mi Box and started controlling it with Home Assistant using a Broadlink RM3 Mini. The setup itself was straightforward, but I ran into an issue where I couldn’t get the state of the Android TV unit after starting it. I reached out to the community, and someone suggested using a static internal IP and pinging it to check the status. That worked like a charm! Now, I can start and stop the Mi Box seamlessly through Home Assistant. It’s such a relief to have everything automated without manual intervention.
Another project I’ve been working on involves my Shelly devices. I have three Shelly 1s controlling my garage and garden gates. Initially, I struggled with the gates not responding correctly, especially when I tried to open them without knowing their current state. After some research, I decided to add door/window sensors to each gate. This way, I can create scenes that check the sensor status before opening or closing the gates. It’s a small tweak, but it’s made a huge difference in reliability.
I also wanted to mention my experience with Zigbee devices. I recently added some Konke motion sensors to my setup, which operates on channels 15, 20, and 25. My Zigbee2mqtt gateway was initially set to channel 11, so I had to switch it to 25 to pair the new sensors. However, I noticed that my existing Aquara sensors started acting up. After some trial and error, I found that running two Zigbee gateways on different channels might be a solution, but it’s a bit complex. I’m still exploring this, but I wanted to share my findings in case someone else is dealing with a similar issue.
Lastly, I’ve been impressed by how the community here helps each other out. Whether it’s troubleshooting a device or sharing tips, everyone’s willingness to assist makes this place amazing. If anyone has questions about integrating devices or setting up automations, don’t hesitate to ask—I’m happy to help!
