I’ve been on a journey to integrate my smart devices seamlessly, and I wanted to share my experience with the community. Recently, I discovered a clever workaround to connect my Vera system with Alexa without needing an invocation word. This was a game-changer for me!
Here’s what I did: I created a virtual switch in Vera, set it to binary light mode, and voilà! It appeared in the Alexa app. I named it something intuitive, like “TV,” and now I can say, “Alexa, turn on TV,” which triggers the virtual switch. This has been incredibly handy for automating my home theater setup!
Taking it a step further, I linked this virtual switch with Eventghost to send UDP messages to my RTI AV processor. This allows me to control my entire AV system with voice commands. It’s been a smooth process, and I’m thrilled with the results!
