Integrating Smart Devices with Hubitat: Tips and Tricks

Hello everyone! I recently got my first Hubitat hub and decided to dive into setting it up over the weekend. I wanted to share my experience and some tips I’ve gathered along the way, especially for those looking to integrate multiple smart devices from different brands.

I currently use a variety of devices, including Ring video doorbells, SwitchBot, Wyze outdoor cameras, and Philips Hue lights. Initially, I was using Alexa and Google for voice control, but I wanted to centralize my automations using Hubitat. One thing I was unsure about was whether to remove these devices from Alexa and Google before adding them to Hubitat. After some research, I decided to keep them in all platforms for flexibility. Now, I can use Hubitat for automations while still leveraging Alexa and Google for voice commands.

I also plan to set up Homebridge for HomeKit integration, which I’ve heard can streamline things further. However, I’ve heard that duplicate devices can sometimes appear when integrating multiple platforms. To avoid this, I made sure to carefully configure each device in Hubitat before adding it to other ecosystems.

For anyone looking to integrate devices from multiple brands, here are a few tips I’ve found helpful:

  • Start Small: Begin with one or two devices to get a feel for how Hubitat works before adding everything at once.
  • Check Compatibility: Not all devices may be compatible with Hubitat, so it’s worth checking their compatibility list first.
  • Use Scenes and Automations: Hubitat’s scene and automation builder is incredibly powerful. I’ve already set up a few basic automations, like turning on lights when motion is detected, and it’s been a breeze.

I’d love to hear from others who have successfully integrated multiple brands into their smart home setups. What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them? Let’s share our experiences and tips!

Happy integrating! :rocket:
