I recently embarked on a project to automate my home’s exhaust system, and I’m excited to share my journey and solution with the community. The system comprises an exhaust fan and several room-specific blowers, controlled via a wall-mounted dial. Initially, I faced the challenge of integrating this system into my smart home setup, particularly with the dial’s adjustable settings.
I started by using a Sonoff switch to control the exhaust fan’s on/off functionality, which worked seamlessly. However, the dial’s variable settings posed a hurdle. After some research, I discovered that integrating a smart plug with a rotary encoder could provide the necessary control. This setup allowed me to adjust the fan speed remotely through my smartphone app.
To enhance the automation further, I programmed the system to adjust the fan speed based on real-time air quality sensors. This integration not only simplified daily use but also improved energy efficiency. The process involved some trial and error, but the satisfaction of seeing the system operational was rewarding.
I’d love to hear about others’ experiences with similar projects or any innovative solutions they’ve implemented. Let’s continue to inspire each other in creating smarter homes!
