Hey everyone, I’m diving into the world of smart home automation and wanted to share my experiences and some tips I’ve picked up along the way. ![]()
Recently, I’ve been working on integrating a gas fireplace into my smart home setup. I came across the Remotec Z-Wave ZFM-80 dry contact, which seemed like a solid choice. However, one of my main concerns was ensuring it could operate during a power outage. After some research and reaching out to the community, I found that while the ZFM-80 requires 120v to run, it does have a manual override feature, which was a relief! ![]()
Another project I’ve been tackling is automating my home security system. I’ve been using motion sensors and door/window sensors from D-Link, specifically the DCH-Z110 and DCH-Z120 models. They’ve been performing exceptionally well, and I love how seamlessly they integrate with my existing Z-Wave setup. If anyone is looking for reliable sensors, I’d definitely recommend giving these a try! ![]()
I also wanted to touch on something I’ve noticed with openHAB rules. I recently ran into an issue where a rule I created wasn’t firing as expected. After some frustration and troubleshooting, I realized that another rule with the same name in a different .rules-file was causing the conflict. It was a bit of a head-scratcher at first, but renaming the rule resolved the issue. This taught me the importance of unique rule naming across all files, especially in larger setups. ![]()
If anyone has tips or experiences to share regarding integrating different devices or optimizing rules, I’d love to hear them! Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other create smarter homes. ![]()
