Hello everyone, I’m reaching out from the perspective of a clinical psychologist working with individuals who have cognitive impairments. We’re currently exploring how commercial smart home solutions, such as Z-Wave sensors and a Vera gateway, could serve as a cognitive aid for our patients. One of our key goals is to help those with memory or attention impairments by providing audio reminders throughout the day. For example, reminders to take medication or attend a doctor’s appointment synced with Google Calendar would be incredibly beneficial.
While there are specialized solutions available, they are often prohibitively expensive and proprietary, making them inaccessible to many who could truly benefit. We’ve looked into recording devices that can be controlled by a switch, but we’re seeking a more seamless integration. Ideally, we’d like a single device that can play different recordings based on signals from the Vera gateway, all without relying on a computer.
Additionally, having a feedback option, like a wall button to acknowledge receipt of a message, would add another layer of convenience. We’re curious if anyone has experience with Z-Wave devices that could trigger such recording devices or if there’s a way to achieve this functionality within the Vera ecosystem. Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! ![]()
