Integrating Smart Lighting Across Multiple Rooms

I’ve been working on a project to integrate smart lighting across multiple rooms in my home, and I wanted to share my experiences and some tips with the community. My goal was to create a seamless lighting system that can be controlled both locally and through my smartphone. Here’s what I did and what I learned along the way.First, I started by identifying the rooms where I wanted to install smart lighting. The kitchen, living room, and bedrooms were my top priorities. I decided to go with RGBW LED strips for their versatility and ability to create different ambiance settings. I chose the Shelly RGBW2 as my smart switch because of its compatibility with Home Assistant and its ability to handle both RGB and white light channels. One of the challenges I faced was finding the right placement for the RGBW2 switches. In the kitchen, I wanted to keep the setup as sleek as possible, so I opted for a hidden installation behind a decorative panel. This required precise wiring and ensuring that the switch had enough space to function properly. I also had to make sure that the LED strips were evenly distributed to avoid any dark spots. In the living room, I took a different approach by integrating the RGBW2 into a custom-built media console. This allowed me to hide the switch completely while still having easy access to the controls. I also added a motion sensor to automatically turn the lights on when someone enters the room, which has been a huge convenience. For the bedrooms, I focused on creating a relaxing environment. I installed the RGBW2 switches in such a way that they could be easily accessed from the bed. I also set up a routine in Home Assistant that gradually dims the lights in the evening, helping me wind down before bed.One thing I learned is the importance of proper wiring and ensuring that all components are compatible. I also discovered that while the RGBW2 is incredibly versatile, it’s essential to test different settings to find the perfect balance of color and brightness for each room.Overall, this project has been a great learning experience, and I’m thrilled with the results. My home now has a cohesive and customizable lighting system that enhances the overall living experience. I hope my journey can inspire others who are looking to integrate smart lighting into their homes.
