I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation over the past few months, and it’s been an incredible journey! One of my favorite projects has been setting up a smart lighting system in my bathroom using a Shelly Plus 1 and a door sensor. The goal was to automate the bathroom lights so they turn on when I enter and off when I leave, creating a seamless experience.
Initially, I wasn’t sure if the Shelly Plus 1 would work perfectly with the door sensor. After some research and experimentation, I realized it was a breeze to set up. I configured the door sensor as a trigger in my smart home app, and now the lights automatically adjust based on my movements. It’s such a small yet impactful change that makes daily life so much easier!
I also wanted to share some tips for those looking to integrate multiple devices. When I first started, I was overwhelmed by the number of options available—Z-Wave, Fibaro, 433MHz, etc. I decided to go with Z-Wave for its reliability and wide range of compatible devices. However, I’ve also heard great things about Fibaro for more advanced setups. If you’re unsure, I recommend starting with a few key devices and expanding from there.
Another thing I’ve learned is the importance of mesh networks. They ensure that your devices stay connected even if one node goes down. I’ve been using OpenHAB for my setup, and it’s been fantastic for creating custom rules and automations. The community support is also incredible—whenever I hit a snag, there’s always someone willing to help.
I’d love to hear from others about their experiences with different devices and systems. Have you found any particular combination that works exceptionally well? Or maybe you’ve encountered a unique challenge and figured out a clever workaround? I’m always on the lookout for new ideas to enhance my smart home setup!
Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other create smarter, more connected homes! ![]()
