I’m excited to share my journey of integrating smart lighting and multi-room audio in my off-grid home. While I’ve managed to set up Philips Hue outdoor lamps for the terrace, I’m now exploring how to automate their behavior based on the state of my door sensors. The goal is to have the lamps light up in a specific color, say red, when the door opens, and then transition to a normal scene. This would be a fantastic addition to my current setup, which relies heavily on Szenen and Räume for automation.
For multi-room audio, I’ve been researching affordable solutions that can handle 6-8 channels. While I’m tempted to build a system using individual Raspberry Pis and amplifiers, the cost seems prohibitive. I’ve come across some bindings that support multi-channel amplifiers, which might be a more economical option. However, I’m not sure how well they integrate with OpenHAB for scene automation.
Another challenge I’m facing is ensuring the system remains off-grid. I’ve invested in a 20kWh battery and use solar power, so minimizing energy consumption is crucial. I’m curious to know if others have successfully integrated similar systems in off-grid environments and what optimizations they’ve made to reduce power usage.
I’d love to hear from the community about their experiences with multi-room audio setups, especially those that work seamlessly with OpenHAB. Any tips on optimizing energy consumption or recommendations for reliable multi-channel amplifiers would be greatly appreciated!
