Hey everyone! I wanted to share my recent experiences with integrating some smart home devices, and I hope it might help someone else out there. ![]()
I recently installed two Danalock V3 smart locks using ZigBee, and I must say, the setup was pretty smooth. They show up as lights in Phoscon and deConz, which is a bit quirky, but I love that they’re recognized as smart locks. I’ve been able to control them through Phoscon without any issues, which is great. However, I noticed that OpenHAB doesn’t pick them up automatically, which is a bit puzzling. I’m curious if anyone has managed to integrate these locks manually or has some tips on how to do it. Any advice would be super appreciated! ![]()
Speaking of smart home projects, I’ve also been working on upgrading my garage door opener. It was a fun DIY project where I added Wi-Fi connectivity using an ESP8266 module. I created a step-by-step video tutorial and even shared it on Instructables. The process involved setting up a relay shield and a reed switch to detect the door’s status. One hiccup I ran into was using port D3, which caused some unexpected behavior during boot. Switching to port D2 solved the issue, and now everything runs smoothly. I’m really happy with how it turned out and how easily it integrates with Home Assistant using MQTT. If anyone is interested, I’d be happy to share more details or help troubleshoot! ![]()

Another thing I wanted to mention is my experience with Homematic IP devices. I recently connected a HmIP-WRC6 remote control unit, and at first, I wasn’t getting any events in Home Assistant. After some research, I found out that Homematic IP devices require a direct or program connection within the CCU to send events. To work around this, I connected all six buttons of the remote to a virtual adapter channel. Now, every button press is perfectly registered in Home Assistant. It’s a neat workaround, and I thought I’d share it in case someone else is dealing with similar issues. ![]()
