Hi everyone, I’m excited to share my experience with integrating my Yale Real Living Z-Wave smart locks with the new SmartThings platform. After nearly seven years of reliable service, I recently upgraded from the original SmartThings app to the new, device handler-less version. While the transition has been mostly smooth, I encountered a few challenges that I thought might be worth discussing with the community.
First, I want to highlight how impressed I am with the new platform’s intuitiveness and streamlined interface. The ability to control all my locks from one place without the need for additional device handlers is a huge plus. However, I did run into an issue when trying to manage lock codes through the ‘Smart Lock Guest Access’ app. Specifically, I was unable to create or update any codes, which was a bit frustrating given how essential this feature is for sharing access with family and friends.
After some troubleshooting, I discovered that the problem might be related to how the new platform handles legacy devices. I reached out to the community and received some helpful suggestions, including checking for firmware updates and ensuring all integrations were up to date. While these steps didn’t immediately resolve the issue, they provided a good starting point for further investigation.
One thing I’m particularly curious about is whether others have faced similar challenges with their Yale locks or if there are workarounds that I haven’t considered yet. I’m also interested in hearing about others’ experiences with the new SmartThings platform, especially regarding compatibility with older devices.
In the meantime, I’m continuing to explore the platform’s features and am optimistic that a solution will be found soon. It’s also been a great opportunity to remind myself of the importance of regular maintenance and updates to ensure everything runs smoothly.
If anyone has any insights or tips, I’d love to hear them! Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other make the most out of our smart home setups.
