As I embark on my journey to integrate smart meters into my home automation system, I’m both excited and a bit overwhelmed. I’ve managed to set up my power, gas, and water meters using rtl_433, but the process hasn’t been entirely smooth. Initially, I used a basic RTL-SDR, but it didn’t pick up any signals. After upgrading to a better model, I still face issues, especially with the water meter located in the basement. I’m curious if others have faced similar challenges and if placing the SDR outside would make a difference.
Another hurdle I’ve encountered is with notifications. After setting up my Amazon Echo Auto, I started receiving persistent pop-ups that I couldn’t dismiss without opening and closing the Alexa app repeatedly. It’s frustrating because I’ve turned off all notification settings. I’m hoping someone has a solution or workaround for this issue.
On a more positive note, I’ve successfully integrated my Wyzecam V/2 cameras, which provide excellent coverage. However, I recently noticed that continuous recording to the cloud has stopped, and I’m unsure if I need to reinstall the device or if there’s a simpler fix.
Despite these challenges, I’m determined to overcome them. I’m also exploring the possibility of creating a script to automate heating for my radiator, which would be a great addition to my setup. If anyone has experience with such scripts, I’d love to hear their advice.
This journey is teaching me the importance of persistence and the value of community support. I’m grateful for platforms like this where I can share my experiences and learn from others. Here’s to continuing this adventure and making my home smarter one step at a time!
