Hey everyone, I’m here to share a fun challenge I’m tackling with my smart home setup. I’ve recently installed a bunch of Hue bulbs in my living room, which is fantastic, but there’s one crucial feature I’ve lost: the ability to dim the lights from the wall switch. My wife is all about the Wife Acceptance Factor (WAF), so this is a must-solve issue!
I’ve been brainstorming how to integrate a physical wall switch that can pass dimmer values to SmartThings without actually altering the voltage to the bulbs. The on/off functionality is still important, but the dimming is the real hurdle here. I’ve created a multi-dimmer setup to handle all the bulbs at once, but now I need that physical connection.
One idea is to bypass the switch and hardwire the bulbs, but I’d rather keep the basic on-off functionality intact. I’m curious if anyone knows of a device or method that can achieve this. Maybe a virtual dimmer setup or some clever integration with the existing SmartThings ecosystem?
I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Has anyone successfully integrated a wall switch for dimming with Hue bulbs? Any tips or tricks would be incredibly helpful! Let’s make this happen and keep the WAF high! ![]()
