Integrating Smart Thermostats for Energy Efficiency and Convenience

Hello everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience and insights into integrating smart thermostats for our office spaces. After researching various options, we decided to go with the HmIP-SK16 thermostats due to their compatibility with our existing setup and the ability to read temperatures directly from the thermostat display. However, we faced a challenge with our IT department’s concerns about network security and the use of Access Points for these devices.

I have a few questions for the community:

  • Can the thermostats function without a constant internet connection if we only plan to use the app within the office?
  • Is it possible to use the Access Point only during initial setup and then switch to a LAN connection for ongoing operations?
  • Are there alternative solutions or workarounds that don’t involve internet connectivity but still provide the functionality we need?

Additionally, I’d love to hear about others’ experiences with smart thermostats and how they’ve managed similar setups. Have you encountered similar issues, and how did you resolve them? Any tips or best practices would be greatly appreciated!
