Integrating Smart Thermostats for Radiant Floor Heating

I’ve been exploring options for integrating smart thermostats into my home automation system, particularly for controlling my 4-zone radiant flooring system. Radiant floor heating behaves quite differently from forced air systems, and I’ve found that traditional thermostats often overshoot temperature setpoints due to the thermal inertia of the concrete slab. This has led me to look into thermostats specifically designed for radiant heating systems.

I’ve come across the Omnistat Zigbee thermostat, which seems promising as it supports Zigbee, a protocol my SmartThings setup already uses. However, I’m not entirely sure about its compatibility with my system. Does anyone have firsthand experience with the Omnistat for radiant floor control? How does it handle the thermal lag inherent in such systems?

On the other hand, the Nest thermostat is known for its radiant floor support, but I’m hesitant about relying on an unofficial integration with SmartThings, especially with multiple thermostats in play. I’d love to hear if others have successfully integrated Nest thermostats into their SmartThings ecosystems for radiant floor heating.

If anyone has tips or insights on configuring these thermostats for optimal performance with radiant floors, I’d be incredibly grateful! The goal is to create a seamless, efficient system that maintains consistent temperatures without the hassle of constant adjustments.

Looking forward to hearing your experiences and recommendations!
