Integrating Smart Thermostats for Underfloor Heating/Cooling

Hello everyone! I’m currently planning a home automation project and I’m trying to figure out the best way to integrate my underfloor heating and cooling system into Home Assistant. My setup includes four separate heating/cooling circuits, each controlled by a basic room thermostat. These thermostats are pretty straightforward—they have a mode switch for heating or cooling and a temperature sensor to control the valve. However, they’re not very smart, and I’d love to automate them for better efficiency and convenience.

One idea I’ve come across is replacing the existing thermostats with Z-Wave or Zigbee models, which would allow me to control them through Home Assistant without having to touch the valves themselves. This seems like a good option, but I’m not entirely sure how to proceed with the installation or if there are any potential issues I should be aware of. I’d also like to know if there are any specific thermostats that work particularly well with Home Assistant.

Another thought is whether I need to modify the valves at all or if I can keep them as they are. I’d prefer not to make any changes to the valves if possible, as that could complicate things. I’m also curious if there are any alternative solutions or if anyone has successfully integrated a similar system before.

If anyone has experience with this or could provide some guidance, I’d be really grateful! I’m excited to get this project started and would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions.

Cheers,
Pawa
