Integrating SmartLife and Z-Wave Devices: A Smooth Transition

Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of home automation and it’s been an exciting journey! I’ve got a mix of SmartLife/Tuya light switches and a couple of Z-Wave switches connected to my Vera system. While I love the convenience of these devices, I’ve been curious about making my SmartLife switches operate locally rather than relying on Tuya’s cloud service. From what I’ve read, options like Tasmota, ZHA, and MQTT might be the way to go, but I’m not entirely sure which one would be the best fit for my setup. I’d love to hear your experiences and recommendations on this!

Another thing I’ve been pondering is my Z-Wave setup. I’ve got a couple of tilt switches on my garage doors that I can’t seem to find a good Zigbee alternative for. I’m wondering if it’s better to stick with my Vera gateway or switch to a Z-Wave USB stick for Home Assistant. Any insights or suggestions would be super helpful!

On a lighter note, I’ve been really impressed with how the community comes together to solve problems and share tips. It’s awesome to see everyone’s creativity and expertise in action. If anyone has tips on optimizing their smart home setup or cool project ideas, I’m all ears!

Looking forward to hearing from you all and learning more about the best ways to integrate and enhance my smart home setup. Cheers!
