I’ve been on a journey to create a seamless smart home ecosystem using a mix of SmartThings and Shelly devices. It’s been a fascinating experience, and I’d love to share some of my findings and tips with the community!
The Setup
I started with SmartThings because of its robust app and compatibility with a wide range of devices. However, I quickly realized that integrating Shelly devices could add a whole new level of flexibility and control. Shelly’s ability to work with both Z-Wave and Zigbee protocols made it an excellent choice for my setup.

- Group Configuration: Grouping devices in the Shelly app before integrating them with SmartThings streamlined my automation rules. It made creating complex scenarios much easier.
- Routine Automation: Leveraging SmartThings’ automation features to trigger actions based on Shelly sensor data has been a game-changer. For example, my lights now dim automatically when I lower the Shelly roller blind!
A Little Story
One evening, I was testing the integration of my Shelly Button with the SmartThings app. I set up a routine where pressing the button would turn on my living room lights and adjust the thermostat. To my delight, it worked perfectly on the first try! It was a small victory, but it reinforced my belief in the power of integrating different ecosystems.
