Integrating SmartThings with Homey: A Seamless Experience

Integrating SmartThings with Homey has been an incredibly rewarding experience! :tada: I wanted to share my journey and some tips for anyone looking to bridge these two ecosystems.

I started by developing an app to control my SmartThings devices through Homey. The goal was to leverage the strengths of both platforms—SmartThings’ extensive device compatibility and Homey’s intuitive automation. So far, I’ve successfully integrated devices like my Samsung TV, washing machine, and even my Danalock Z-Wave lock, which has been a bit of a connectivity challenge in the past.

One of the key steps was generating a personal access token from SmartThings and configuring the app to communicate with the SmartThings API. To keep things simple, I avoided adding a settings page, which should make future updates to Homey Cloud easier.

The app currently polls the SmartThings API every 6 seconds for device status updates, ensuring near real-time responsiveness. This has been particularly useful for monitoring my Fibaro smoke detector and using my phone as a presence sensor.

I’d love to hear from others who might be interested in this integration or have suggestions for improvement. Whether it’s about funding the development or sharing use cases, your feedback is invaluable! :star2:
