I recently found myself in a situation where I wanted to integrate my trusty old stereo receiver, purchased over two decades ago, with the modern world of SmartThings. The goal was to have it play alert tones for various actions without upgrading to a new receiver. After some research, I discovered that while my receiver lacks Bluetooth, there are solutions that allow it to communicate with SmartThings. I explored various options, including using a rotary encoder for volume control via MQTT, and found that with the right setup, it’s entirely possible to bridge the gap between legacy hardware and smart home systems. This experience taught me the importance of creativity and adaptability when integrating older devices into a modern ecosystem. If anyone has tips or experiences to share, I’d love to hear them!
