I recently embarked on a project to integrate my traditional wall light switch with my smart home ecosystem, and I’m thrilled to share my experience! 
The goal was simple yet meaningful: press the wall switch to turn on my ceiling lights while simultaneously triggering my Home Assistant server to activate two specific smart power plugs. These plugs, in turn, power additional lamps, creating a cohesive lighting setup. Initially, I wasn’t sure if this was feasible with a Shelly 1 Mini Gen3, but after some research and experimentation, it turned out to be a breeze!
Here’s how I did it:
- Step 1: I configured the Shelly 1 Mini Gen3 to detect the state of the wall switch. This was straightforward using the Shelly app.
- Step 2: I set up a rule in Home Assistant to monitor the switch state. When the switch is toggled on, it sends a command to both the ceiling lights and the smart plugs.
The result? A seamless integration that respects my existing setup while enhancing functionality. Now, I can enjoy the convenience of smart lighting without abandoning my traditional switch!
