I’ve been exploring the integration of my Ubiquiti Unifi setup with Home Assistant, and I must say, it’s been a fascinating journey! 
I currently run Home Assistant on Proxmox and was curious about the best way to integrate the Unifi Controller without compromising performance. After some research, I found that running the Unifi Controller in a dedicated VM is highly recommended to avoid port conflicts, especially since I already have MQTT running.
I decided to give it a shot and set up a new VM in Proxmox specifically for the Unifi Controller. The process was smoother than I expected, and the integration with Home Assistant worked like a charm! 
I’m now able to monitor and control my network devices seamlessly within the Home Assistant interface.
For anyone looking to do the same, I’d recommend checking out the official Home Assistant documentation and the community add-ons. They provide excellent guidance and troubleshooting tips. If you’re hesitant about setting up a VM, there are also alternative methods, but I found the VM approach to be the most reliable.
One thing I’d love to see in the future is better automation support for network devices within Home Assistant. Imagine triggering scenes based on device connections or optimizing bandwidth usage dynamically!
