Integrating Velux Windows with Homematic: A Smooth Experience

I’ve recently been working on integrating my new Velux windows with my Homematic system, and I wanted to share my experience and ask for any additional tips from the community.

First, let me set the scene. We’ve just moved into a new home with four Velux windows, each equipped with a KUX 100 control unit. These units use the io-homecontrol program from Velux, which includes a steering device and a wireless remote control. The goal was to seamlessly integrate these into our existing Homematic setup.

At first glance, it seemed straightforward. The KUX 100 units receive signals from the remote control and then send these signals via a two-wire cable to the window. However, here’s where things got a bit tricky. The cable always had 24V running through it, and the steering signals were superimposed on this voltage. This meant I couldn’t simply attach a regular blind motor to the cable.

After some research, I discovered that the KUX 100 units are designed to work with specific Homematic actuators. I reached out to the community and found some helpful tips. One user suggested using a specific type of actuator that can handle the 24V and interpret the steering signals correctly. This was a game-changer!

I also came across a detailed guide on the Velux website that provided step-by-step instructions on how to integrate their systems with Homematic. It was incredibly helpful and gave me the confidence to proceed.

Now, onto the installation. I carefully connected the actuators to the existing cable system, ensuring that the voltage and signal compatibility were just right. After a few trial runs, the system worked perfectly. The windows now open and close smoothly, all controlled seamlessly through the Homematic app.

I’d love to hear from anyone who has done something similar or has additional tips. Have you integrated Velux windows with Homematic? What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them?

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this project. It’s amazing how a community can come together to solve problems and share knowledge. Here’s to many more successful integrations! :rocket:
