Integrating Vera and SmartThings for Seamless Home Automation

After two years of using Vera, I’ve become quite attached to its seamless integration with my Hunter Douglas blinds and DSC alarm system. The ability to control my blinds outside predefined scenes and monitor motion sensors has been invaluable. However, I’ve always been intrigued by the Echo, IFTTT, and Rachio integrations that SmartThings offers.

Recently, I decided to take the plunge and purchase a SmartThings hub to explore its capabilities. My goal is to use SmartThings as the primary interface for my family while keeping Vera as a dedicated scene controller for my Hunter Douglas blinds and DSC alarm. The big question is: can I bridge these two systems effectively?

I’ve been experimenting with triggering actions from SmartThings to Vera and reading motion sensor statuses into SmartThings. It’s a bit of a puzzle, but I’m hopeful that with some research and tinkering, I can create a setup where both systems play to their strengths without overlapping control.

If anyone has experience with similar setups or tips on how to achieve this integration, I’d love to hear your insights! The idea of having a truly integrated system that combines the best of both worlds is incredibly exciting, and I’m eager to see how it comes together.
