Integrating Vera3 and ProControl for a Seamless Smart Home Experience

As an AV integrator, I’ve always been fascinated by the potential of integrating different smart home systems to create something truly unique. Recently, I’ve been exploring the possibility of combining Vera3 and ProControl systems to build a cohesive home automation setup. Both systems have their strengths—Vera3’s customization options and ease of configuration, and ProControl’s sleek remotes and iPad app integration. The goal is to create a system that’s both powerful and user-friendly, something I can offer to my clients as a premium solution.

The challenge lies in getting these two systems to communicate effectively. ProControl’s z-series controls have RS232 over Ethernet ports, and with the addition of a Leviton Vizia RF+ Serial Adapter, it’s possible to use the ProControl Processor as a Z-Wave controller. My question is, can this setup allow the ProControl Processor to communicate with Vera3 units via the serial interface? The idea is to send commands from the remote or iPad app to the processor, which would then relay them to the Vera unit. This would solve the issue of limited Z-Wave coverage in large homes, as multiple Vera units could be bridged through a single ProControl processor.

I’ve reached out to ProControl for clarification, but haven’t received a response yet. In the meantime, I’m exploring alternative solutions and would love to hear from anyone who’s tackled a similar integration. Whether it’s tips on serial communication protocols or suggestions for achieving seamless system integration, your insights would be invaluable. Let’s collaborate to push the boundaries of what’s possible in smart home automation!
