Integrating Volumio into Smart Home: A Challenge and Solution

Hey everyone, I’m currently working on integrating my Volumio audio player into my smart home setup. It’s been an interesting journey, and I wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone else or if you have any tips to add!

I started by setting up device discovery on my Homey Pro. I followed the standard steps, creating a discovery file in the appropriate directory and ensuring the device properties were correctly set. The device itself is discoverable via Avahi, and I can see it listed when I run avahi-browse -a. However, despite all these configurations, my Homey Pro isn’t detecting the Volumio device. I’m wondering if there’s something I’m missing in the discovery process.

One thing I noticed is that the Volumio device doesn’t use the http-secure protocol. Could this be a barrier for Homey to recognize it? I’m not entirely sure, but it’s something I’m considering. I’ve tried various name combinations in the discovery file, including _Volumio, _volumio, and others, but nothing seems to trigger a successful discovery.

I’m also curious if there are alternative methods to integrate Volumio with Homey. Maybe there’s a plugin or a workaround that I haven’t explored yet. I’ve checked the Homey community forums, but I haven’t come across a solution that fits my setup. If anyone has successfully integrated Volumio into their Homey ecosystem, I’d love to hear about your approach!

On a positive note, I’ve found the Volumio app itself to be quite user-friendly and powerful for managing my audio setup. It’s just the integration part that’s been a bit of a hurdle. I’m determined to figure this out, and I’m hopeful that with some more research and maybe a bit of trial and error, I’ll get it working seamlessly with my smart home.

Thanks in advance for any insights or suggestions you might have! Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other out in this smart home adventure.
