I’ve been really excited about setting up some motion-activated lighting in my backyard, and I finally got it all working! I wanted to share my experience in case anyone else is looking to do something similar.
So, here’s the setup: I have a Wyze Outdoor Camera and an Amazon Smart Plug. The goal was to have the plug turn on a string of outdoor lights whenever the camera detects motion. I’ve seen a lot of guides for using Wyze cameras with Philips Hue bulbs, but I wanted to see if it could work with a simple smart plug instead.
After some research, I figured out that I could use IFTTT to create a recipe that triggers the plug when the camera detects motion. The process was pretty straightforward:
- Set up the Wyze camera and ensure it’s connected to my network.
- Add the Amazon Smart Plug to my Alexa devices.
- Create an IFTTT applet: If Wyze detects motion, then turn on the plug.
Now, whenever my camera spots something (like the neighbor’s cat), the lights come on automatically. It’s been a great way to deter potential intruders without having to manually check the camera every time.
I’m really happy with how this turned out. It was a simple project, but it’s made a big difference in terms of security and convenience. I’d love to hear if anyone else has tried something similar or has tips for improving this setup!
