I’ve been on a journey to integrate my existing Xiaomi and Tradfri devices with the SmartThings hub, and I wanted to share my experiences and tips with the community. Curiosity and excitement drove me to explore how seamlessly these devices could work together, and I’m thrilled with the results so far!
Initially, I had a few questions: Should every device be directly connected to the SmartThings hub, or are there exceptions? Can I connect my Xiaomi vacuum cleaner to the hub? And do I really need the Ikea Trådfri gateway, or can I leave it out? After some research and experimentation, I discovered that most devices can indeed be connected directly to the hub, and the Xiaomi vacuum cleaner works like a charm! As for the Tradfri gateway, it’s optional if you’re using Hue integration, which was a pleasant surprise.
One of the highlights of this setup is how it’s transformed my daily routine. For instance, I’ve created a scene where my Xiaomi door sensor triggers the Tradfri lights to turn on when I enter the room. It’s these small conveniences that make home automation truly magical.
