Integrating Z-Wave and Yolink for a Reliable Smart Home

As I’ve been diving deeper into the world of smart home automation, I’ve been experimenting with a mix of Z-Wave and Yolink devices to create a more reliable setup. While Z-Wave has been my go-to for its no-cloud dependency and robust ecosystem, I’ve also found Yolink to be a solid alternative, especially for certain use cases where reliability is key.

For those of you struggling with Z-Wave coverage in a large home, I’ve found that using multiple Z-Wave sticks on separate networks can really help. I’m currently running a ZST10 with Z-Wave JS and a ZST39 with Z-Wave JS UI, and it’s been a game-changer for my setup. I’m hopeful that future updates will support multiple sticks in Z-Wave JS UI, especially for SmartStart functionality, which I’ve been relying on for adding new devices.

On the Yolink front, while it does require a cloud account for initial setup, the local hub I recently received seems promising. I’m planning to test it by blocking its internet connection to see how well it operates in local mode. The motion sensor has been particularly impressive in my metal environment, which has been a challenge with Z-Wave battery devices. However, the door sensors’ range is a bit limited, so I’m considering experimenting with different magnets to improve this.

For anyone looking to expand their smart home setup, I’d recommend exploring both Z-Wave and Yolink. They each have their strengths, and combining them can provide a more versatile and reliable system. If you’re thinking about upgrading your Z-Wave setup or trying out Yolink, feel free to reach out—I’d be happy to share more details about my setup and what’s worked for me!
