Integrating Z-Wave/Zigbee Sensors with Nest Thermostat for Custom Automation

Hi everyone! I’m really excited to share an idea I’ve been working on and would love to hear your thoughts or experiences. I’ve been exploring the possibility of integrating some spare Z-Wave and Zigbee temperature sensors into my Nest thermostat setup to create a more customized home automation system.

My goal is to use these additional sensors to trigger the Nest thermostat on and off based on the temperature readings in different rooms. Essentially, I want to create a system similar to a custom Ecobee3, where the thermostat adjusts based on multiple data points from around the house.

I’ve got a couple of spare multisensors lying around, and I’m curious if anyone has successfully done something like this before. What kind of setup did you use? Did you encounter any challenges, and how did you overcome them?

I’m thinking about how to configure the sensors and connect them to the Nest. Is there a specific integration or app that makes this easier? I’d also love to know if there are any potential issues I should be aware of, like compatibility or configuration hurdles.

If anyone has experience with this or similar projects, I’d be really grateful for any advice or tips you can share. Let’s brainstorm together and see how we can make this project a success!

Thanks in advance for your help!
