Integrating Zigbee Devices with Homey: Hue vs Direct Connection

Hey everyone, I’m looking to set up some IKEA Tradfri GU10 lamps in my home and I’m trying to decide whether to connect them through my existing Philips Hue hub or directly to my Homey device. I’ve had great success with my Hue setup so far, but I’m curious about the benefits of connecting Zigbee devices directly to Homey without relying on the Hue hub.

I currently have a Homey installed on my loft and a few Lidl smart plugs connected directly to it. I’m wondering if adding the Tradfri lamps directly to Homey will create a more seamless Zigbee mesh network or if using the Hue hub might provide better reliability.

I’ve read that Zigbee networks can be sensitive to interference, so I’m trying to figure out if having multiple Zigbee devices connected directly to Homey will cause any issues. I also heard that Homey’s firmware 4.2 has some improvements for Zigbee connections, which is good news.

If anyone has experience with both setups—connecting Zigbee devices through Hue versus directly to Homey—I’d love to hear your thoughts! Is there a noticeable difference in performance or reliability? Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!
