Integration Challenges and Solutions in Home Automation

As a long-time enthusiast of home automation, I’ve encountered various integration challenges while setting up my smart home ecosystem. I’d like to share some of my experiences and solutions, as well as seek advice from the community on a few lingering issues.

1. APC UPS Integration with Home Assistant
I recently connected an APC SMT750I UPS to my Home Assistant setup using USB and the Network UPS Tools (NUT). While I managed to display some data, I’m still missing key metrics like input voltage and load percentage. Has anyone successfully configured this setup? Any tips or scripts would be greatly appreciated!

2. Nest Mini Connectivity Issues
I’ve been trying to add a Google Nest Mini to my system, but it works perfectly on my Ethernet-connected device and refuses to connect to my Wi-Fi setup. Both devices are on the same network. I’ve reset the device multiple times and checked the Wi-Fi settings, but no luck. Any insights or troubleshooting steps would be invaluable.

3. Ring Security Without Subscription
I’m considering phasing out my Ring devices due to subscription issues and the rise of more reliable competitors. For now, I’d like to maximize their functionality without a subscription. Can Home Assistant handle arming/disarming and video recording via an NVR? I’d love to hear others’ experiences with this setup.

4. Outdoor RGB Lighting
I’m looking to upgrade my outdoor lighting with RGBW puck lights that support Zigbee or Z-Wave. I’d appreciate any recommendations on reliable brands or models that integrate seamlessly with Home Assistant. Aesthetics and durability are key for my setup!

5. Apcupsd in Proxmox and Hassio
I’m running Home Assistant in a Proxmox environment and want to monitor my APC UPS. I’m curious if others have successfully run apcupsd within a Hassio container or if there’s a better approach to integrate UPS monitoring without external tools.

If anyone has insights or solutions for these challenges, I’d be grateful for your expertise. Let’s continue to support each other in building smarter, more integrated homes!
